I House of Peoples of FBiH schedules emergency session on amendments to the Transplantation Law

(Patria) - After the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina scheduled an emergency session for today on the Proposal for a Law on Amendments to the Law on Transplantation of Organs and Tissues for the purpose of treatment, the House of Peoples of this parliament did the same.

Namely, the Government of the Federation of BiH yesterday, at an emergency session, upon the proposal of the Federal Ministry of Health, established the mentioned bill and sent it into urgent parliamentary procedure for adoption.

The Proposal supplements the Law with a provision that, if it concerns the taking of organs or tissues from a living unrelated donor, proof of a blood, in-law, marital or extramarital relationship between the donor and recipient shall not be carried out.

These amendments to the law are very important, among other things, because of the case of Adnan Šemić from Mostar, who suffers from a rare disease, Wilson's disease, and the only hope for survival is a liver transplant.

No one in Adnan's family can currently donate a part of the liver, but a man from Loznica, Željko Mijailović, who heard the story and wants to help, has come forward.

However, neither the current law in Turkey, whose experts would perform the operation, nor the law in FBiH allows transplantation from persons who are not relatives. Turkish doctors have even agreed to perform the operation in BiH, once the legal prerequisites are created.
