(Patria) - Tomorrow, 21 May, a session of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held, the first since 4 April. Among other items on the agenda will be the Draft Law on Official Time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose proposer is the Institute for Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In Europe, a debate is underway on abolishing winter and summer time, and Bosnia and Herzegovina has also joined the discussion in line with recommendations. The European Commission has proposed a regulation to member states that envisages ending the practice of changing clocks for summer and winter periods.
“The Institute for Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina has prepared a proposal for the Law on Official Time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and after obtaining opinions from relevant institutions, the completed material has been forwarded to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This draft law defines the official time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the use of official time, the method of time calculation, and time measurement for commercial purposes,” stated the Institute for Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Regarding the EU decision on abolishing summer and winter time calculation, Bosnia and Herzegovina will follow positive EU legal provisions, and this law will also be harmonised with those provisions.
The European Parliament voted to abolish clock changes from April 2021, two years later than planned. EU member states will be left to decide whether to keep summer or winter time.
For this proposal to pass, official confirmation from the Council of Europe and the European Parliament is required.
