Hurtić in Kotor Varoš: I will personally bear the costs of lawyers if Bosniaks are tried for the flag with lilies

(Patria) - Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sevlid Hurtić, visited Kotor Varoš on Sunday. He met with members of the Organizing Committee of the Peace March "Silent Walk for Great Pain", which was recently held in this municipality. These are individuals who received misdemeanor orders and were questioned at the premises of the RS MUP for carrying the flag with lilies.

In order to preserve their dignity and help them spread and protect the truth, Minister Hurtić offered to bear the costs of lawyers if a court process occurs.

He emphasized that every citizen of this country has the right to dignified commemoration of the suffering of their people.

"The victim must have every possible respect, and paying tribute to the victims must not be a reason or opportunity for relativizing the victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in any nation. I believe that one of the human rights is the cultivation of the culture of remembrance, it is our obligation as survivors, and we will continue to pass it on to future generations," said Hurtić.

We remind that the first flag of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, adopted upon the declaration of independence in 1992, was precisely a white flag with a shield with lilies, whose motifs and inspiration were taken from the Bosnian Middle Ages, specifically the period of King Tvrtko I Kotromanić. It served as a visual symbol and was part of the national identity of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina until 1998, when High Representative Carlos Westendorp imposed the current solution.

"I consider it important to highlight the fact that the flag with lilies was internationally recognized," concluded Minister Hurtić.
