Humanitarian Organisation "Svjetlo": Many returnees eat meat only during Kurban-Bajram

Muslims around the world celebrate Kurban-Bajram on 24 September this year, one of the two largest Muslim holidays, when Muslims sacrifice an animal in the name of Almighty God – kurban, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

Kurban-Bajram in Bosnia and Herzegovina is especially awaited by the poor, who during these holiday days receive kurban meat from neighbours and friends, which they sometimes eat for several weeks.

From the humanitarian organisation "Svjetlo" from Sarajevo, whose members have been collecting kurban meat for the poor, as well as for Bosniak returnees in the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska, for several years, they tell the Patria news agency that many returnees in RS eat enough meat only during Kurban-Bajram, while during other months of the year they can hardly afford it.

From the Association "Svjetlo", this year as well, they are opening the possibility for citizens to use their mobile teams to deliver kurban meat, or money for kurban, to the poor in Srebrenica, Bratunac, Zvornik, Milići, Višegrad, Han Pijesak and other towns in eastern Bosnia.

This humanitarian organisation distributed about eight tonnes of kurban meat to returnees in eastern Bosnia in this way last year alone, writes NAP.
