An unpleasant scene took place in front of the Grbavica stadium in Sarajevo on Saturday evening, after hooligans attacked the footballers of Široki Brijeg's youth teams, specifically the juniors and cadets.
Three young footballers were injured in the incident, reports the Patria news agency.
Dženis Beganović, a Željezničar footballer who also scored a goal for his team tonight, bravely tried to stop the attack by the perpetrators, but did not fully succeed. As he told Patria, this brave footballer is shocked by tonight's attack on the players from Široki Brijeg, but wants to emphasize that the guests from Herzegovina were not attacked by Želje fans, but by hooligans who have nothing to do with this Sarajevo club or sport in general.
- I don't think I did something that other guys from my team wouldn't have done as well. I simply wanted to help my colleagues from the opposing team. First, two perpetrators came and I managed to calm them down. But soon a group of five hooligans appeared carrying sticks, and then I became powerless - said Beganović.
He added that he is sorry for what happened in front of the stadium at Grbavica.
- I don't know what the motive of the perpetrators was or why they attacked these guys. I am truly sorry about everything. Our fans would never do this to any team - says Beganović.
The police of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton were also informed about this case and immediately dispatched several police patrols to the scene. The hooligans also damaged the bus of the Široki Brijeg footballers, reports NAP.
