The visit of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, to Srebrenica and laying flowers at the memorial to Bosniaks who died in 1995, has caused a great reaction in the public of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the news agency Patria.
Dodik laid flowers in Potočari on Thursday, accompanied by the Mayor of Srebrenica Municipality, Ćamil Duraković.
After the visit to Potočari, a meeting began between Dodik, Duraković, and the President of the Municipal Assembly of Srebrenica, Miloš Milovanović. The three are discussing economic problems in this municipality in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The President of Republika Srpska is known for denying that genocide against Bosniaks occurred in Srebrenica in 1995.
Serb forces killed more than 8,000 Bosniaks in the Srebrenica area during July 20 years ago, including a large number of children, women, and the elderly.
Many former members of the Army of Republika Srpska have been convicted for crimes in Srebrenica by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and the highest military and political officials of Republika Srpska from that time are currently being tried before the International Court for crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia for this and other genocides in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Vice-President of the Association "Movement of Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa", Kada Hotić, told the Patria agency that Dodik should have come to the memorial in Srebrenica earlier, and that it benefits the Serb people more than the Bosniaks.
Most analysts in Bosnia and Herzegovina are not ready to comment on Dodik's laying of flowers at the memorial in Potočari. They hope that his policy towards Srebrenica will not stop at this, but that he will do everything to rebuild coexistence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes NAP.
