Will the BiH Council of Ministers and RAK save BHRT from shutdown?

(Patria) - At the end of November 2025, during protests in front of the State Parliament, and again in February 2026, BHRT submitted proposals to the competent institutions for exiting the crisis. Among them are:

- Securing credit funds in the amount of 100 million KM with a guarantee from the Council of Ministers of BiH;

- Allocation of 25 million KM from the surplus revenue of the Communications Regulatory Agency or from the budget reserve for the urgent settlement of part of the obligations;

- Urgent application of legal provisions regulating the collection and distribution of the RTV fee.

The BHRT crisis does not only concern the media sector. This institution manages the state network of transmitters and repeaters, which represents a key part of the communication infrastructure of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This network is used by numerous state institutions, including the Ministry of Security of BiH, the Ministry of Defense of BiH, SIPA, the Border Police, BHANSA, and other agencies.

Any disruption in the functioning of BHRT could have far-reaching consequences – not only for public information but also for communication systems of broader security and public importance, according to a BHRT statement.

BHRT interrupted its regular programming today and is broadcasting only news according to the established schedule.

If the BHRT signal is completely shut down, it will be a defeat for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also a path towards the shutdown of other institutions bearing the state prefix.
