Damir Džumhur today defeated Mirza Bašić 6:0, 7:6 in the all-BiH semifinal of the ATP 250 series tournament in Moscow.
We have long waited for a historic duel between BiH tennis players in the semifinals of an ATP tournament, but unfortunately only one could advance to the final. Damir deservedly secured the victory, but we could thoroughly enjoy the excellent tennis presented by our best players.
In the final, Džumhur will play against the winner of the Mannarino - Berankis match and has the opportunity to win his second ATP title in his career. Interestingly, he also achieved his first title in Russia, when he triumphed in St. Petersburg.
Before the tournament in Russia, Džumhur was ranked 38th on the ATP list, and by reaching the final, he has moved up to the 32nd position.
If he defeats the better of the semifinal duel between the third seed, Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, and Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in tomorrow's final, he will have 1,411 points, which will be enough for the 31st place on the ATP list.
Bašić advanced by as many as 51 positions by reaching the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Moscow.
Before this week's great success, Bašić was ranked 209th on the ATP list, and next week he will be in the 158th position.
