The Heroism of Izet Nanić is Eternal: Remembering Operation 'Munja 93'

(Patria) - Operation 'Munja 93' is among the most brilliantly planned military operations, conceived by the commander of the 505th Bužim Brigade, General Izet Nanić, and carried out by his comrades, with the support of the Territorial Defense and members of the then 111th, later 511th, Bosanska Krupa Brigade.

It was a victory, as RTV USK recalls, over a significantly superior enemy, who from several hills, collectively named 'Eagle's Nest', shelled and set fire to the Bužim area.

"It was an operation born of necessity, in which just three hundred men from Bužim, in only a few hours, decisively defeated an entire aggressor brigade and liberated ten kilometers of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This battle changed the entire course of the war, and in Bosanski Novi, due to the losses inflicted on the so-called First Novigrad Brigade, five days of mourning were declared.
