(Patria) - BiH Minister of Defence Zukan Helez, during a working visit to Srebrenica, visited the Memorial Center in Potočari today, where he laid flowers and recited Fatiha for the genocide victims.
After paying his respects to the victims, Helez stated that every person visiting Potočari must first feel respect for those killed in the genocide, and also strive to preserve the memory of the suffering of the people of Srebrenica.
- We must not and have no right to forget what happened in Srebrenica; it is our permanent obligation. Srebrenica is an indelible stain that compels us to seek truth and justice, because by remembering the painful past and learning lessons from it, we can together decide that it must never happen again.
Today I am here to pay tribute and bow to the victims of the genocide and to support the adoption of the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica. I call on those who deny the genocide here to come with their children and see the shoes of civilians from mass graves - Helez said.
He emphasizes that he is sure that even children, based on these facts, would confirm that genocide occurred in Srebrenica.
- My message to everyone, from this place, near the border with the Republic of Serbia, is that this must never happen again to anyone. Today, Bosnia and Herzegovina has its institutions, police, and its Armed Forces, which are ready to defend every inch of its homeland.
I want to tell the returnees and the residents of Srebrenica, above all, that they can sleep peacefully, because we monitor every unserious statement by our politicians, we monitor what they do, and we are ready at any moment to protect our population and our homeland.
I must emphasize that we have no information about threats to our country, but even with the international community, EUFOR, and NATO, we are ready to protect our country - Helez added.
As part of his working visit to Srebrenica, the BiH Minister of Defence held a meeting with the Director of the Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić.
The interlocutors discussed activities and preparations for marking the 29th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. The meeting topics also concerned the continuation of infrastructure construction in the Memorial Center, as well as other projects that contribute to preserving the memory of the genocide victims.
Helez stated that the BiH Ministry of Defence is available to assist the Memorial Center and the citizens of Srebrenica.
The Minister also visited the museum exhibition on the genocide in Srebrenica and the Memorial Complex.
After the meeting with Suljagić, he walked through Srebrenica and spoke with citizens.
