(Patria) - The Ministry of Justice of the Republika Srpska entity received a response from the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in The Hague stating that the President of the Mechanism is currently unable to receive a delegation from Republika Srpska to discuss the health condition of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić.
The Ministry of Justice of Republika Srpska had previously requested a meeting between the Minister of Justice Goran Selak and the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts, as well as relevant representatives of this institution, to discuss the healthcare and conditions of criminal Mladić.
The letter sent to the Ministry states that the Government of Republika Srpska has already sent a letter to the President of the Mechanism advocating for "adequate healthcare" and the release of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić for treatment within the ongoing proceedings.
In that context, and in order to preserve both the appearance and the reality of judicial independence regarding Mladić's request, the President is currently unable to receive the delegation, the response from The Hague stated.
