The judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be ineffective in the fight against corruption, organized crime, and terrorism, as long as individuals of high personal integrity and professionalism, ready to face all challenges, are not appointed to positions, reports the Patria News Agency from the statement by the Secretary General of the Center for Security Studies, Denis Hadžović.
-The European Union also warns that it is time for effective reforms. The resolution being prepared by the European Parliament focuses on the fight against corruption and organized crime, and points to the alarming ineffectiveness of the BiH judiciary.
The ineffectiveness of the judicial system has reached a level that rightly concerns the new authorities, and strengthens the sense of insecurity among citizens. The Minister of Security of BiH, Dragan Mektić, has expressed concern in several interviews about the high percentage of acquittals. In his opinion, either arrests are made without solid evidence, or the judiciary is not doing its job properly, or both.
Research by the Center for Security Studies shows that citizens have the least trust in the judiciary when it comes to entities responsible for fighting corruption.
Without brave and competent judicial officeholders, the Justice Sector Reform Strategies (2014-2018) will be merely formal and will bring very little benefit to the citizens of BiH, for whom they are being implemented, the Center for Security Studies states.
