Hadžić: Edin Džeko also offered me help, and I thank him for that

Former Sarajevo football player Damir Hadžić, who survived a real drama with his family in Željezo Polje, a place that suffered devastating destruction from landslides and floods, stated today for the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) that he is grateful to all the people who helped him in his case, when he didn't know where his wife and two children were.

- I am still trying to come to my senses. My older daughter is afraid of the rain. She constantly talks about how strange it is that rain can cause all this destruction. I really don't know, a terrible thing happened to us, but now we are focusing on reconstruction and everything that follows – says Hadžić, adding that his house was not destroyed, but that this area no longer resembles what it used to be –

Hadžić, known for his modesty, says he was ashamed at the beginning that only his family was mentioned while others were in a similar or worse situation, and he hopes that through his example people understood what was happening in Željezo Polje.

- They finally made the road accessible, and now we are going to the site to see what nature has done to us. I cannot describe the feelings when you stand on the ruins of everything you have built your whole life – added Hadžić.

Incidentally, numerous friends and former teammates immediately contacted Hadžić asking what he needed. As Hadžić told NAP, Edin Džeko, BiH national team player and Manchester City member, also contacted him.

- He asked how he could help. I told him that my house was not destroyed and that I really didn't need anything, but I thank him from the bottom of my heart for the concern he showed. I heard that Muhamed Konjić was also looking for me, and I was in constant contact with former teammates Sedin Torlak, Veldin Muharemović, Almir Turković... – says Hadžić.

Through the misfortune that happened to him, he realized how many friends he has in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are now constantly telling him that he should start working here.

- I never thought about it because I always said that Sarajevo should be left to Sarajevans. Even as a player in FK Sarajevo, I said that I would never take the captain's armband as long as there was even one born Sarajevan in the locker room. Because, I can love Sarajevo and I do, but certainly not as much as someone who was born there – added Hadžić.

He adds in the end that he knows that the priority is rebuilding houses, but he would like it if a playground in his village of Ravne could be made accessible again.

- It no longer resembles the playground it used to be. I took my first football steps there, and I would like it to be made accessible again – added Hadžić.
