Hadžibajrić rewarded young geographers who won medals at the Olympiad

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Two students from the First Bosniak Gymnasium Sarajevo, Fatih Žgalj and Ahmed Čomor, won silver and bronze medals in the senior category at the 6th European Geography Olympiad. Given that these are prestigious awards, the mayor, Mr. Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, decided to host and reward these two successful, diligent, and intelligent young people.

Their professor, Sead Srna, who prepared them for this competition, was also present with Fatih and Ahmed. Due to the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the competition was held online and organized by the Center for Talents of Serbia at the end of August. Professor Srna stated that 112 participants from 15 European countries competed in two categories (juniors and seniors).

“The Olympiad is based on the international programs of Cambridge and Oxford; the tasks are very complex, demanding, and exclusively in English, which makes the success of our two competitors even greater,” explained Professor Srna.

Fatih and Ahmed thanked Mayor Hadžibajrić for the reception and awards, and the assistant mayor for education, culture, and sports, Lejla Dizdarević, also attended the meeting. Fatih and Ahmed got the opportunity to represent their country at the European showcase of the best geographers thanks to their previous successes in cantonal competitions, but above all, their dedicated work.

Fatih Žgalj is a resident of the municipality of Stari Grad and a former student of Elementary School “Hamdija Kreševljaković” in Vratnik. During his schooling, he won numerous awards at municipal and cantonal competitions in various subjects. Two years ago, at the Solemn Session of the Municipal Council, Fatih received a letter of thanks from Mayor Hadžibajrić for his contribution to the affirmation of the Municipality of Stari Grad.

With this move, Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić has, for the umpteenth time, shown his commitment to successful and gifted young people in the fields of education and sports. In the absence of clear and systemic solutions for supporting these individuals, Mayor Hadžibajrić and the Municipality of Stari Grad have always found ways to help within their realistic capabilities, and this will definitely continue in the future.
