BARE CEMETERY: Funeral prayer and burial of Edin Avdić held

(Patria) - Family, friends, colleagues and numerous admirers bid farewell to the legendary sports journalist and commentator at his final resting place at the Bare cemetery.

Sarajevo said goodbye today to Edin Avdić, a legendary sports journalist, commentator and one of the most recognisable voices of regional basketball.

After commemorations in Belgrade and Sarajevo and numerous farewell messages that arrived in recent days from across the region, the funeral prayer for Edin Avdić was held today, followed by his burial in the Alley of Distinguished Citizens at the Bare city cemetery in Sarajevo.

A large number of family members, friends, media colleagues, sports workers, former and current basketball players, and citizens of Sarajevo attended the final farewell to a man who left his mark on sports journalism in this region.

During a career spanning more than two decades, Avdić became synonymous with basketball, and his distinctive phrases, expertise and style of commentary marked the upbringing of generations of sports fans.

His voice was an indispensable part of the biggest basketball games, while the podcasts "Udvajanje" and "X&O's Chat" in recent years became essential listening for thousands of basketball enthusiasts across the region.

Particular emotion was stirred by the fact that Avdić began his life's journey precisely in his native Sarajevo, a city to which he remained devoted until the last day of his life. Since 2009, he lived and worked in Belgrade.

Numerous delegations from sports organisations, clubs, associations and media outlets laid flowers and paid tribute to a man whose contribution to sports journalism left an indelible mark.

With the passing of Edin Avdić, regional basketball has lost one of its greatest promoters, but his legacy will continue to live on through the generations he taught, inspired and enriched with his work.

Sarajevo bid him farewell to his eternal rest today, but the memory of Edin Avdić will remain permanently inscribed in the history of sport and journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
