Border Police of BiH face constant staff deficit: Cadets applying this year will start working in 2027.

(Patria) - State police agencies have been facing a shortage of staff, specifically police officers, for years.
This is most pronounced in the Border Police of BiH, which is short of more than 800 officers.

At the beginning of this year, there was a shortage of 1,250 police officers across the three state agencies.

Only in July this year did the Council of Ministers of BiH approve the plan for admitting cadets to police agencies at the level of institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the year 2025.

Thus, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies was approved to admit 70 police officers, and the Border Police of BiH 150 cadets; the admission procedure for the 14th class of cadets is underway.

According to the plan, candidates are expected to start police training in May 2026 (DCBP), or in October 2026 (BP BiH).

After their education, they are expected to start employment in June 2027.

As stated in the decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH, after the Budget for each fiscal year is approved, the employment of police staff from this Plan will be carried out no later than 90 days from the date specified by the dynamics in point II of this Plan. Police agencies are obliged to include the clause prescribed by this point in the individual contracts concluded with the cadets.

Otherwise, in September 2025, the training of the 13th class of BP BiH cadets began, who will start employment next year.
