Cities of Sarajevo and Budapest Agree to Strengthen Cooperation

(Patria) - The cities of Budapest and Sarajevo share a rich common history, but are also committed to strengthening relations and opportunities for concrete cooperation on current and future projects for the benefit of citizens.

"I am encouraged by the very substantive talks I had today in the capital of Hungary with my colleague István Tarlós. I informed him about the progress Sarajevo is making as a city, as well as about the numerous challenges that lie ahead. Budapest, as our sister city, has offered its experiences regarding the use of European Union funds for development projects, which is one of the priorities of this city administration and where we have already achieved enviable results.

We also considered options for cooperation in the arrangement of the Miljacka riverbed, which is part of the Danube basin, as well as projects for the illumination of cultural and historical buildings, especially from the Austro-Hungarian period in Sarajevo," said Mayor Skaka.

The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to institutionally expand its international ties, strengthening its position and presence in European metropolises. This contributes not only to the dissemination of positive and accurate information about Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also directly helps the development of the tourism industry.

A confirmation of the excellent relations between the two cities is the highly acclaimed performance of the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra in Vijećnica on the occasion of May 9th, which was agreed upon in earlier meetings between the mayors.
