(Patria) - Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić denied allegations that a new political movement is being formed, with which her name is also associated.
"This is information that has been circulating for months. It is disinformation. I am an original social democrat, I am proud of the SDP, and there is no question of forming any political movement," Karić said on the show Istraga sedmice.
Speaking about the plaque on the City Hall, which some individuals often dispute, and even ask to be covered during some visits, Karić said that the plaque is not problematic for her and that it will not be removed during her term. The plaque reads that Serbian criminals set fire to the City Hall.
"Whose criminals set fire to the City Hall? Well, Serbian criminals. If there can be a Serbian poet, a Serbian hero, a Serbian artist, why is it a problem to say a Serbian criminal?" she said.
The mayor said that her mother is a Serb, and she also asked her family members if the inscription Serbian criminals bothered them.
"They told me why it would bother us, we are not them. It is a bigger problem if someone identifies with it. I don't see what is problematic about it. And why the focus on the City Hall, on Kazani, on Sarajevo. When will we see the removal of a plaque glorifying a convicted war criminal?" Karić asked.
