Citizens end protests in front of Hotel Jablanica: 'Amire to jail'!

(Patria) - Several hundred citizens from various parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina protested in Jablanica in support of brutally beaten worker Enisa Klepo. After a performance dedicated to women victims of violence, the demonstrators walked through Jablanica and stopped at Hotel Jablanica where Enisa worked. The protest ended there.

The citizens chanted "Amire to jail", alluding to the owner who brutally beat the worker when she, as she says, resigned and demanded her salary.

The citizens chanted and used whistles the entire time. Police forces secured Hotel Jablanica.

Read the citizens' demands and messages here. A large number of citizens from various cities are attending the protests, including National Assembly of Republika Srpska MP Nebojša Vukanović, Federal Minister of Labour and Social Policy Adnan Delić, and the father of the tragically deceased young man Dženan Memić, Muriz.

"This is terrible. I am originally from Jablanica, this is terrible. We came to show support. Stop violence and let justice be served to the end," said a citizen who came from Konjic.

An elderly resident of Jablanica said she demands that the perpetrator be jailed.

"To lay a hand on a woman, it makes no sense. Just because she asked for her salary," she said.

Rubina Čengić, a journalist and activist, said that violence begins the moment an employer does not register a worker, does not pay a salary, does not pay contributions...

"I believe that this gathering in a small Jablanica will send a message to all women in BiH to report any form of abuse and discrimination, and to inspectors, experts, judges, and prosecutors that they must treat violence against women much more radically. In Serbia, 24 women were killed in half a year, we must not allow that to happen to us. In this case, we know who the perpetrator is, where he lives, and what he does. There should be no mitigating circumstances," Čengić told N1.
