(Patria) - In Goražde today, a Memorial Park was ceremonially opened for war hero and legendary commander Zaim Imamović.
The solution for the park's construction was found with the help of the Municipality of Trnovo by the Mayor of Goražde, Zaim's son Ernest Imamović.
The Memorial Park was opened in the presence of numerous delegations from all levels of government in BiH, associations, and many citizens by Zaim's wife, sons, and grandchildren. By laying flowers, reciting Fatiha, and observing a minute of silence, tribute was paid to a true hero of the defense of BiH.
- Flowers can be respectfully laid at this memorial monument for Commander Zaim and all fallen members of the units he commanded.
This Memorial Park belongs to all mothers and fathers whose sons and daughters laid down their lives for the defense of BiH, and in this Memorial Park, they will be able to recite Fatiha for their children and all fallen defenders and Commander Zaim - said Mayor Ernest Imamović in his address to those present.
He added that the youth of Goražde, as well as other visitors, will be able to learn about the courage, heroism, and sacrifice of Commander Zaim, all members of the Army and MUP of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as citizens in the then Goražde district during the period 1992-1995, through historical lessons.
The Minister of Defense of BiH, Zukan Helez, also paid tribute to the legendary commander, emphasizing that the image and work of Zaim Imamović continue to live on through this Memorial Park, through his son Ernest, his grandson Zaim, his fellow citizens of Goražde, and Podrinje.
The blessing for this region and the whole of BiH is that it had Zaim Imamović during the aggression, a hero of the defense of heroic Goražde and BiH. Zaim means leader; it can be said that by birth, he was destined for great things and successes.
Although he did not want it, he was a born leader; people loved and followed him. Commander Zaim went first; he did not push the army but led it, which is why he had the special respect and trust of all people.
Zaim Imamović, with the rank of Major, served as the commander of the 14th Division of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the aggression against BiH, he made his heroic contribution. He was wounded six times and was awarded the highest recognition of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the "Golden Lily".
This true hero of the defense of Goražde died on Treskavica hill Čelina above the Rogoj pass on October 9, 1995, just two days before the establishment of peace in BiH.
