Goražde residents without water since last night due to flooded pumps

(Patria) - The Cantonal and City Civil Protection Headquarters of the Bosansko-Podrinjski Canton (BPK) held an extraordinary session in Goražde today.

One of the topics of the session was information gathered through the observation network in the BPK area concerning the situation on the ground and the implementation of activities aimed at protecting people and material assets in the conditions of heavy snow and rainfall that have affected this area in the past 24 hours.

The session was held in the afternoon, with an expanded composition.

Reviewing the factual situation on the ground, common positions and lines of action for the competent services were agreed upon, the implementation of which will contribute to a more effective response to challenges caused by adverse weather conditions and a reduction in possible harmful consequences.

In this regard, the following conclusions were reached:

1. To urgently establish formal legal correspondence with the FUCZ and the Water Directorate of the Sava River Basin (letters will be sent to the mentioned entities) regarding the newly arisen situation;

2. That the Cantonal and City Civil Protection Headquarters place their resources (material and financial) at disposal for the fastest possible commissioning of the water factory in Goražde;

3. The Cantonal Road Directorate and the Service for Urbanism, Spatial Planning, and Communal Affairs are tasked with intensively working on maintaining the accessibility of all roads in the city and BPK area in accordance with their competencies;

4. The Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of BPK Goražde, the City Service for Fire Protection and Firefighting, the municipal Civil Protection services of Pale FBiH and Foča FBiH, and all units and services within the Civil Protection system at both levels are tasked with monitoring the situation along the Drina River banks and engaging necessary mechanical-technical means (MTS) as needed;

5. The competent information services of the BPK Government, the City Administration, and the municipal administrations are tasked with coordinating activities with the Cantonal Civil Protection Headquarters regarding timely and adequate informing of citizens.

6. We inform citizens that regular water supply to Goražde will be restored on the morning of January 7, 2026, due to technical protection of the pumps.

Let us remind you that the Mayor of Goražde, Ernest Imamović, announced today in a notice to his fellow citizens on his Facebook page that due to the rise in the Drina River water level, the pumps at the water factory in Vitkovići were flooded, resulting in the suspension of water supply to the city area.
