Goals by Mekić: Željezničar beats Borac

(Patria) - In the derby of the third round of the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željezničar defeated Borac 2:0.

Both Željezničar and Borac had European trips this summer, which is why both teams played their first league matches only tonight in the 3rd round.

At the well-filled Grbavica stadium, with a group of visiting fans also present, in a fantastic football atmosphere, the home team was better and deservedly celebrated with a 2:0 victory.

Early in the match, Mekić tried from distance, but without danger to Borac's goal. Amoah was blocked in the seventh minute, and in the 12th minute, Mijatović, who replaced the injured Ćetković a few days ago, saved Krpić's shot.

Jašarević then had a good chance, but the Montenegrin goalkeeper stood out again. In the 26th minute, Rustemović crossed, and Krpić shot wide. Borac responded only in the 43rd minute, when a great shot by Kvržić went wide.

In the second half, Željezničar quickly took the lead. After a cross, a visiting defender headed the ball away, Mekić ran onto it and brilliantly hit the side netting from 18 meters, sparking celebrations in the stands. That was in the 48th minute.

Gasal hit the post in the 53rd minute, and just two minutes later, the Blues scored their second goal. Mekić scored again. He crossed from about 30 meters, no one touched the ball, and it ended up in the net.

With a bit of luck, Mekić could have completed a hat-trick, but Mijatović saved his shot in the 59th minute. On the other side, Vranješ tried, and Muftić stopped the shot from the experienced Borac midfielder. In the 67th minute, Amoah had a chance, but Mijatović was again excellent.

Borac could have gotten back into the game in the 71st minute, but the post saved the home side after a shot by Corteza. Borac failed to score even a consolation goal, so they will open their Premier League campaign with a defeat, while Nermin Bašić's chosen ones started the championship in the best possible way and will try to be competitive in the title race, although securing another European spot is the primary goal.

In the fourth round, Željezničar will visit Posušje, while Borac will have a chance to win their first points in Banja Luka against Igman.

The match between Široki Brijeg and Tuzla City will conclude the third round tomorrow. Earlier today, GOŠK defeated Zvijezda 09 2:0, and Igman beat Sloga from Doboj 1:0. On Friday evening, Sarajevo crushed Posušje at Koševo 3:0, while the match between Zrinjski and Velež will be played later. The Plemići are still without a played match in the Premier League, as the NFSBiH accommodates them and allows postponements due to their European appearances.
