Journalists who reported as war correspondents during the war in BiH certainly haven't forgotten that period of their careers. One of them is long-time NPR, National Public Radio, journalist in Washington, Tom Gjelten, who reported from Bosnia and Herzegovina on multiple occasions between 1992 and 1997, writes the Patria News Agency.
He stated the following on social media:
A city with an incredible story, still close to my heart after 20 years – Gjelten wrote, leaving a link with a recommendation for traveling to the capital of BiH.
Otherwise, Gjelten previously told the media that he would remember one thing for the rest of his life, which he experienced on the road from Belgrade to Sarajevo, when crossing the border and entering BiH.
- Just before our entry, there was fierce fighting in that place. When we arrived, everything was quiet, but the smell of gunpowder in the air was extremely strong. That was the first time I smelled gunpowder, which I will remember forever. The smell can be very powerful, and since then I have had great sensitivity to that smell; whenever I recognize it, I know that a battle has just ended there – Gjelten said.
