(Patria) - Every third child under two years old in the northern Gaza Strip is acutely malnourished and on the brink of starvation, warns the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
"Child malnutrition is spreading rapidly and reaching unprecedented levels in Gaza," stated the UNRWA statement published on social media.
More than five months after Israel's air and ground offensive in Gaza, triggered by Hamas's devastating attack on October 7, much of the enclave lies in ruins, and most of its 2.3 million inhabitants are displaced and facing a major humanitarian crisis.
Western countries have called on Israel to do more to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.
The United Nations states that it faces enormous obstacles, including the closure of border crossings, complicated inspection procedures, movement restrictions, and unrest within Gaza.
