Gattuso sacked as Marseille coach

(Patria) - Gennaro Gattuso is no longer the coach of Olympique de Marseille, announced famous sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The club officials officially informed the Italian and his staff that they have been sacked.

This news was somewhat expected after a series of poor results for Marseille, which culminated in last night's minimal defeat in Brest.

Marseille had ambitions to qualify for the Champions League through the domestic league, and Gattuso leaves the team in 9th place in Ligue 1 with 30 points from 22 matches played.

The 1993 European champions have not won any matches in seven consecutive games.

It is still unknown who Gattuso's successor will be and who will lead the team on Thursday against Shakhtar, in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off for a place in the round of 16.

The first leg in Hamburg, where the Ukrainians were the nominal hosts, ended with a score of 2:2.
