SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Tottenham player Son Heung-Min today completed three weeks of military training in his native South Korea.
Son enlisted in a marine base on Jeju Island three weeks ago, and today completed basic military training as one of the top five among 157 recruits.
"Son was exceptionally good in all areas of training, including military ethics and security education," a South Korean Marine Corps spokesperson told AFP.
Social distancing due to the coronavirus is still in effect in South Korea, so Son's promotion was closed to the public. However, this did not stop dozens of fans who waited for him outside the base, according to world agencies, Beta reports.
The Marines posted photos of the Tottenham player in a military uniform on their Facebook profile, showing him firing an M-16 assault rifle from a prone position.
In South Korea, all adult men must serve a two-year military service. However, Son received an exemption from the two-year military service after winning a gold medal with the South Korean national team at the 2018 Asian Games.
The 27-year-old Tottenham player is expected to return to London this month.
The Premier League has been suspended since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and no date has yet been set for the resumption of the season.
