(Patria) - Employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, during a field visit on April 27, determined that serious geological changes have been observed at the Curine njive site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad and Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo - Bostarići).
Cracks have formed due to soil movement, which are continuously widening and deepening. Due to rainfall, the presence of surface and groundwater has increased, further destabilizing the soil, creating flooded areas and causing erosion of part of the land towards the first residential buildings on Ablakovina street.
The "Curine njive" site represents the most critical location due to dynamic geological changes, which require intensive monitoring and urgent work (drainage channels) to prevent erosion, according to the regular report of the Federal Civil Protection Administration on the state of natural and other disasters in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the past 24 hours.
At the Knjeginjac site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad), no new construction material dumping has been recorded, but settlement of existing landfill material has been observed, along with initial signs of soil erosion. The Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad has completed the construction of an access road to the Curine njive site, creating conditions for the commencement of drainage channel construction.
At the Bistrički potok site (Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo - Boguševac and Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad), the stream bed continues to be partially filled with earth-stone material and fallen trees. No new changes have been recorded, nor have any measures been taken to remove existing obstacles.
Based on the Orders of the Civil Protection Headquarters of Sarajevo Canton (from November 1 and November 20, 2024), as well as the valid evacuation plans of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, the Civil Protection Service regularly visits the settlements of Bostarići, Ablakovina, and Ablakovina čikma.
Risk assessments and measures for the potential accommodation of the population in safer facilities, which will be provided by the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, are underway, according to the FUCZ statement.
