FUCZ: Cracks widening at Curine njive site due to soil displacement along slip plane

(Patria) - During observation, it was determined that on Wednesday, cracks formed at the Curine njive site due to soil stress and displacement along the slip plane, varying in size, shape, and orientation.

- Visible changes in crack shape, specifically an increase in width, are occurring. In the Curine njive-playground section of the site, there is a constant inflow of water of higher intensity, which partially floods the meadow, leading to ice formation due to temperature fluctuations – it was stated in the FUCZ report.

In the section where material and embankment have been deposited, no water or constant inflow of water into the landslide body has been observed. No permanent water flows were noted on the ground. A intermittent stream has slightly cut into the central and lower parts of the embankment, and in a short section of its course, a few meters long, it disappears by infiltrating into the cracks of the landslide body.

Previous measurements of the amount of water appearing on the eastern flank of the deposited material/embankment measured 2.2 l/min. The presence of water in the western part of the landslide, directly below the embankment, cannot be precisely determined. These waters penetrate the landslide body and weaken the soil's resistance characteristics along the slip plane.

In the section below the "Curine njive-playground" site (part of the Old Town Sarajevo Municipality), visible falling of several new trees, soil erosion, and changes in the shape of previously formed cracks, i.e., an increase in width, are observed.

At the Knjeginjac site in the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo determined that no new quantities of soil and stone material are being deposited, nor are any construction works being carried out.

It was also determined that in the earlier period, the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad installed some metal poles and protective fencing intended to prevent the potential deposition of new quantities of soil and stone material. No new deposition of construction or other material is visible at the landfill near the construction site of the "Trebević Hills" facility.

It was also determined that the bed of the Bistrički stream is still partially filled with material from the landfill, fallen trees, and previously cut trees.

No new collapses of material from the landfill and trees were observed, nor was any removal of previously deposited soil-stone material and trees noted. Due to snowfall, it is not possible to determine the exact condition of the Bistrički stream bed.

The Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad organized 24-hour observation of the terrain in endangered landslide areas, the Curine njive and Bistrički potok sites, with the aim of early warning for the endangered population and their possible evacuation.

In Maglaj, in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, a state of natural disaster has been declared in part of the territory of the municipality of Maglaj, caused by a landslide in the settlement of Mladošević, Novi Šeher, it was announced by the Federal Administration for Civil Protection.
