(Patria) - The French national team recorded a victory in the opening match of Group I of the World Cup, defeating Senegal 3:1.
In the first half, the French looked unconvincing and without any concrete chances, while Senegal showed a more organized and concrete game. The players of coach Thiaw closed the approaches to their goal well and threatened from transitions.
Senegal had the best chance in the first half in the 24th minute when Diouf brilliantly set up Jackson, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the post saved France. Towards the end of the half, Sarr had another great chance, but shot over the goal.
France played much more aggressively in the second half. At the start of the second half, Senegal's goalkeeper made a fantastic save after an attempt by Olise, and soon after by Mbappe.
The key moment came in the 66th minute when Mbappe scored after an assist from Olise to make it 1:0. Senegal shortly after scored a goal through Jackson, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
In the 82nd minute, France doubled the lead – Rabiot assisted, and Barkola finished the action precisely for 2:0.
Senegal managed to reduce the deficit in stoppage time, but Mbappe confirmed France's victory with his second goal for the final 3:1.
