Ferhet Smailagić, who died yesterday along with his wife Emir in a plane crash in the French Alps, was the popular Braco, as his friends called him, writes the BH news agency Patria.
Although only a small number of people from Neuss said they knew Smailagić, which was strange because about 150 people of Bosnian origin live in that German city, and they all know each other, the shock for them came when it was revealed that Ferhet Smailagić was actually Braco, as Smailagić was called by his friends.
The president of the Cultural and Sports Association "Bosna i Hercegovina" in Neuss, Nusret Sabotić, first told the Patria agency that it was strange for him not to know the Smailagićs, whom the media claim are from Neuss, even though Sabotić has lived there for 23 years. However, he later called Patria's editorial office and said that he knew Smailagić, but not as Ferhet, but as Braco.
- He came here when he was 16 years old, he played football and was popular among his friends. In recent years, he developed a taxi company – said Sabotić, writes Patria.
The Airbus A320 with 144 passengers and six crew members crashed in the Digne region, in southern France, in an alpine area.
The plane was owned by Germanwings and was flying on the Barcelona-Düsseldorf route.
This company also operates flights from Sarajevo.
The deceased Ferhat Smailagić was originally from Banja Luka, writes Patria.
