Federal House of Representatives to Hold Emergency Session on Monday Regarding Nova Željezara Zenica

(Patria) - An emergency session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose only announced agenda item concerns the factory Nova Željezara Zenica, has been called for Monday, 8 June, starting at 12:00.

The agenda item is titled Proposal of the Law on the Procedure of Extraordinary Administration in the Company Nova Željezara Zenica d.o.o. Zenica of Special Systemic Importance for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The proposer of this law is the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which submitted it to the parliamentary procedure under an urgent procedure.

Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić yesterday, during a meeting in Sarajevo with representatives of the unions of Nova Željezara Zenica and the metalworkers' unions of the Zenica-Doboj Canton and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced that both houses of the Federal Parliament should convene regarding the aforementioned law at the beginning of next week.

The House of Peoples, unlike the House of Representatives, had not announced such a session on its official website as of the time of this news publication.

At yesterday's meeting with union members, which was also attended by the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić, it was stated that the proposed law is of special systemic importance for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of protecting jobs, preserving domestic industry, and ensuring the stability of the economic system of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to a statement from the Public Relations Office of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the proposed law is an urgent and judicially controlled mechanism that prevents uncontrolled bankruptcy and the closure of the company.
