Federation of BiH takes on additional debt of 42.6 million euros

(Patria) - The House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament adopted by a majority vote tonight the Bill on Amendments to the Law on the Amount of Default Interest Rate on Public Revenues.

If the House of Peoples also approves it, interest accrued by certain economic entities due to non-payment of public revenues, registered as of December 31, 2023, will be written off in full, provided that the principal debt is settled no later than 18 months from the date this law enters into force.

The last previous legislative amendments of this kind stipulated a deadline of December 31, 2019, and payment of the principal debt within 12 months for debtors to be eligible for a write-off of half of the calculated interest.

The House of Representatives also approved the Federation of BiH's borrowing from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in the amount of 42.6 million euros. This is part of a total loan of 71 million euros for the entire BiH, and the stated goal is to contribute to the development policies of BiH's health sectors.

The Report on last year's work and the Financial Plan of the FBiH Securities Commission, as well as the Financial Plan for 2025, were also adopted. Within this agenda item, separate conclusions were proposed, the essence of which is the necessary reforms, given that the securities market is underdeveloped.

Representatives also supported by a majority vote the Bill on Spatial Planning and Land Use at the FBiH level and acknowledged the work report for last year and the first half of 2025 of the Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property, as well as the analytical report of the Environmental Protection Fund for 2024.

By a majority vote, the initiative of the Parliamentary Commission for Youth Affairs to create all necessary conditions for the establishment of the "Amber Alert" system in the FBiH by the end of this year was accepted, as a way to quickly alert the public in case of missing children and involve the wider community in the search.
