(Patria) - The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has seized a large quantity of explosives, and according to initial reports, it may be the largest in the service's history.
Investigators, namely, seized more than 150 homemade bombs and other devices when they searched the house of Brad Spafford, northwest of Norfolk, in December, prosecutors said.
It is believed to be "the largest seizure by number of completed explosive devices in FBI history".
Most of the bombs were found in a separate garage, along with tools and materials for making bombs, including fuses and parts of plastic pipes, according to court documents.
Prosecutors also stated that several additional bombs were found in a backpack in the house's bedroom, completely unsecured.
The suspect is accused of possessing firearms, violating the National Firearms Act. Police state that he also had an unregistered short-barreled rifle.
Prosecutors announced that the suspect faces "numerous additional potential charges" related to the explosives.
Defense attorneys claim that the authorities have not provided evidence that the suspect planned violence, also noting that he has no criminal record.
"There is not a shred of evidence in the record that the suspect threatened anyone, and the claim that someone could be in danger because of their political views and comments is absurd," the lawyers believe.
