EYOF getting closer: Skiing coaches working hard with competitors

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the upcoming European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) which will be held from February 9th to 16th, eight competitors will represent BiH in alpine skiing, who are being prepared by coaches Mirza Nezirović and Almir Bužo.

Nezirović told the Patria agency that the competitors started their preparations back in July last year, and a few days before the start of the 14th edition of EYOF, they will have their final preparations on Jahorina. Part of the preparations is also taking place on Bjelašnica, and the training sessions are daily.

Out of the eight competitors, consisting of four boys and four girls, two are injured, but efforts are being made for all of them to compete.

"We are aiming for everyone to compete and be in shape. We fought to have this number of competitors, so we hope for all of them to participate," said Nezirović.

When asked if there is excitement, but also what the expectations are, coach Nezirović stated that they will give their best, but the competition is too strong.

"There will be competitors who have competed in the Europa and World Cup, but we will give our maximum in our performances," the coach conveyed.

BiH competitors in alpine skiing are Nina Petrović (2001), Esma Alić (2002), Aiša Kantardžić (2002), Ajlin Zuhrić (2002), Harun Kunovac (2001), Salih Hasanbegović (2002), Kemal Karić (2002), and Strahinja Arnaut (2002).

Participation in EYOF 2019 has been confirmed by 46 delegations comprising 750 athletes, coaches, and other members. 150 journalistic teams have been accredited, and thousands of volunteers are preparing for this celebration of sport, the most significant after the 14th Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984. The opening ceremony of EYOF will be held at the Asim Ferhatović Hase stadium on February 10th.
