Elderly Home in Split Evacuated, 10 Residents Infected with Coronavirus

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - During the night, 45 residents of the Home for the Elderly and Infirm in Vukovarska Street in Split were transferred to KBC Split due to ten people infected with coronavirus, and the transfer lasted all night as it was carried out by two teams of emergency medical services. The transfer of the remaining residents is underway.

The 10 positive residents of the home do not have severe symptoms, Index.hr learned this morning.

The home's users were transported by medical staff dressed in hazmat suits, and fear, concern and uncertainty were noticeable on the faces of the elderly.

The director of the Home for the Elderly and Infirm, Ivan Škaričić, stated last night that about fifteen residents had a fever in the previous days, albeit not high, and two days ago coronavirus tests were performed which showed that ten of them were positive. The residents had certain symptoms in the previous ten days, and doctors monitored them daily.

"Now the county Civil Protection Headquarters has made a decision to transfer the users to the hospital at Križine," Škaričić said.

Employees who were in contact with the elderly on the second floor, where a total of fifty of them were located, will go into self-isolation at home, while 50 users will be transferred to Križine. The epidemiological service will disinfect the second floor immediately after the transport of the elderly is completed, Index.hr reports.

It is still not clear how the users became infected, given that there have been no visits there for some time. It is assumed that one of the users who was on a regular check-up at the hospital was infected with the coronavirus. However, it is also possible that the virus was brought in by an employee.
