The non-profit organization Ekopak has launched a campaign to educate citizens about the existence and significance of the “Green Dot”, an internationally protected symbol that can be seen on the packaging of numerous products in BiH, reports the Patria News Agency.
By becoming a member of PRO EUROPE, BiH became the 32nd member country of the large family of European operators for the recycling and recovery of packaging waste, and Ekopak became the sole authorized provider of the right to use the “Green Dot” symbol for the territory of BiH, and also took on the obligation from Brussels to regulate the market regarding the permitted use and informing end consumers about the meaning and significance of this symbol on product packaging.
As part of the campaign, Ekopak is organizing promotions in shopping centers across BiH where citizens can learn about the significance of the “Green Dot”, and how by purchasing products that bear this symbol, they contribute to environmental protection as individuals. Around 300 million citizens have access to separate collection of packaging waste financed by PRO EUROPE members, i.e., system operators like Ekopak.
The first promotion starts at the Boska Department Store in Banja Luka, on Saturday, December 20th at 5 PM. During the promotion, in addition to information about the “Green Dot”, aware citizens who buy products with this symbol can win symbolic prizes, while a corner for drawing and taking photos on an interesting panel is prepared for children.
Ekopak invites all citizens, consumers, to prioritize products with the "Green Dot" when shopping, because in this way they make a personal contribution to environmental protection, and at the same time motivate companies to behave responsibly towards the waste generated by the use of their products. Because the “Green Dot” symbol indicates that the company using it finances the establishment of a system for recycling and recovery of packaging waste through Ekopak's first authorized operator.
After Boska in Banja Luka, promotions continue in Bihać, December 21-22 (City Center and Bingo), Mostar on December 24th (Mepass Mall), Zenica on December 25th (Džananović), Tuzla on December 26-27 (Omega and Konzum), and in Sarajevo on December 28-30 (BBI, SCC and Importanne).
The general goal of the Ekopak campaign is to raise awareness about the existence of the "Green Dot" symbol, about the significance and benefits of its placement on product packaging, both for consumers and for companies.
