Efendić publishes new photos of the Wings of Freedom monument on Žuč hill

(Patria) - The Wings of Freedom monument will be opened on Žuč hill on June 8, and the Mayor of Novi Grad Municipality Semir Efendić has published photos of the memorial. That date is marked as the Defense Day of Novi Grad Municipality and the Day of the Battle for Žuč hill.

"Only Žuč could have such beauty. It is hard to say from which angle they look more beautiful - THE WINGS OF FREEDOM, wings on which the best and bravest sons departed, to remind us of them, and the freedom they left us," Efendić wrote.

The cornerstone was laid in 2022, and the grand monument symbolizes a bird as a symbol of freedom.

The Municipality purchased 8.9 hectares of land at Golo Brdo for its construction, and to enable access to this location, about 4 kilometers of road were asphalted, and a simulation of wartime trenches was also created.

The largest territory during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina was liberated precisely on June 8, 1992, in the area of Žuč, and it was one of the first victories of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Novi Grad Municipality had 25,000 soldiers, many of whom gave their lives to defend the state from the aggressor, for the freedom in which we live today; that is why we are obliged to remember them, as well as our glorious victories.

In an effort to preserve from oblivion everything that happened during the aggression against our homeland, Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality cherishes the culture of remembrance of the defensive-liberation war period, not forgetting those who are responsible for the freedom in which we live today.
