LIVERPOOL, (Patria) - Liverpool celebrated a 5:2 victory against Roma in the first semi-final match of the Champions League, with the captain of the BiH national team, Edin Džeko, scoring one of Roma's two goals.
The first twenty minutes saw open play from both sides, with both teams having several chances, but none were serious enough. Aleksandar Kolarov created the first real chance in the 19th minute. The Serbian international latched onto a rebound after a corner and shot brilliantly from a distance, but the ball only hit the crossbar.
In the next few minutes, Sadio Mané missed two great opportunities to give his team the lead. Both times he shot the ball over Alisson's goal. The Senegalese also scored in the 34th minute, but it was disallowed for offside.
Shortly thereafter, a masterpiece by Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead. The Egyptian entered from the right side and then masterfully hit the opposite corner of Alisson's goal. Two minutes later, Dejan Lovren headed the ball, but the crossbar saved Roma.
However, it did not save them from the fantastic Salah, who in the 45th minute made a great run on Firmino's pass and masterfully lobbed the ball over the Giallorossi goalkeeper to double the lead.
Liverpool continued to dominate in the second half, mostly driven by Salah. In the 55th minute, the Egyptian advanced on the right side, moved towards the penalty area, and set up a sitter that Sadio Mané converted, increasing the lead to 3:0.
Six minutes later, an almost identical situation to the previous goal. Salah was alone on the right side, but this time he passed to Roberto Firmino, who scored to further increase the lead.
In the 69th minute, Milner took a corner, Firmino jumped high in the penalty area and scored, completely sinking the Roman Giallorossi. In the 75th minute, Mohamed Salah was substituted, and Liverpool's play significantly deteriorated.
Just six minutes later, the captain of the BiH national team, Edin Džeko, scored to reduce the deficit and give his team hope. The 'Diamond' made a fantastic run onto a long ball from Nainggolan, controlled it even better on his chest, and beat Karius with a precise shot.
In the 85th minute, Roma scored another goal. This time, the scorer was Diego Perotti, who scored from the penalty spot. The referee had previously awarded a penalty for a handball by James Milner.
The return leg is in seven days in Rome.
