Edin Džeko bought medicine for seriously ill Ernesa Kunalić

Captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team Edin Džeko has once again shown what a humanitarian he is in the most difficult moments for people in our country, reports the Patria agency. 

This time, Džeko decided to help Ernesa Kunalić from Sarajevo, who is seriously ill with breast cancer. 

After two surgeries and three cycles of chemotherapy, Ernesa Kunalić needs to start a new therapy and take the drug Olaparib (Lynparza), which is extremely expensive and is not on the list covered by health insurance in our country. 

Džeko decided to help her and buy the medicine for the first month of treatment, and the medicines will be delivered to her through an intermediary. The medicine costs 5,100 euros in Zagreb. 

- As many of you probably already know, and some may not, my wife, Ernesa, has been battling breast cancer for some time. The two of us, along with our families, have been fighting this battle all this time and have really tried to cope with it on our own.

However, even after three cycles of chemotherapy, two surgeries, radiation, and the great and selfless help we received at KCUS, our fight against her cancer and its metastases is not yet over. We have reached a point where we cannot go further without your help. Ernesa urgently needs to start receiving therapy - a new, smart drug, Olaparib (Lynparza).

This is a drug that was recently approved and, unfortunately, is not yet covered by health insurance in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ernesa would need to take this drug continuously for a year, which requires about 60,000 euros. This is an amount we are unable to provide on our own.

It is not easy to decide to take this step and publicly ask for help, but we owe it to our little daughter Nadja to do absolutely everything in our power so that her mother can get better, and so that she can continue to be the one who, with her maternal, steady hand, guides her through life. And I believe and am sure that with the help of all of you, this problem we have will become a smaller problem because we will have good people by our side – said Admir Kunalić, Ernesa's husband, via Facebook.
