
(Patria) - Damir Džumhur, the best Bosnian-Herzegovinian tennis player, defeated Feliciano Lopez, the world's 108th player and new director of the recent Madrid tournament, in the first round of the Geneva tournament. The Bosnian-Herzegovinian tennis player won 2:1 after a comeback (6:7(2), 6:4, 7:5). In the second round, he will play against the second seed, Stan Wawrinka.
Lopez was the first to break in the first set, taking a 2:1 lead, but Džumhur immediately broke back. Both players held their serves until the end, leading to a tie-break. At the very beginning, the Spaniard took our player's serve and did so three more times until the end, winning the tie-break 7:2.
Džumhur had a break point in the third game of the second set, which he did not convert, and then Lopez had three in the next game, but the BiH player saved them all and broke the Spaniard's serve in the seventh game. The popular Džumi held his serve until the end and won the second set 6:4.
At the start of the third set, Džumhur did not convert one break point, and then saved three in the second game. The BiH player had as many as four break points in the fifth game, but did not convert any. Although he made several unforced errors in important moments later on, our player handled it calmly.
In the eleventh game of the third set, he reached three consecutive break points, immediately converted the first, and took a 6:5 lead. In the next game, he served for 7:5, thus winning the match 2:1 after a comeback.
