SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Damir Džumhur eagerly awaits the "Adria tour", especially the match in his hometown, Sarajevo, where he will play against the best tennis player on the planet - Novak Đoković.
The best tennis player from BiH, Damir Džumhur, has known and trained with Novak Đoković for years.
"Today we will have a training session. We have been training and spending time together for years, we have a great relationship since we met in 2014. Our relationship has grown over time. Novak is a great guy, the best tennis player, perhaps the best athlete of all time. His modesty is something he possesses and it is truly appreciated," said Džumhur as a guest on the morning program of Radio Television of Serbia.
Džumhur considers the exhibition match he will play in Sarajevo with Đoković to be the pinnacle of his career.
"Sarajevans can't wait for the match, the best tennis player of today, one of the best in the history of sports, is coming. It will be a big thing for my hometown, for BiH. Sarajevans will finally have a chance to see Novak Đoković. For me, it's a big deal, it will be the pinnacle of my career. However, when you know that Novak Đoković is coming to play an exhibition with you, it's a special feeling," said Džumhur.
By chance, he spent several months in Belgrade during the coronavirus crisis. He trained at home and admits that it didn't turn out so badly.
"We had to improvise, to adapt... I managed to work on my physical fitness at home and in the end, it didn't turn out too badly. I can't say I'm not physically fit."
Tennis players miss the court, which is why everyone is eagerly awaiting the "Adria tour". The first batch of 1,000 tickets was sold out in a record seven minutes.
"The Adria tour starts from Belgrade, goes towards Zadar, then Montenegro, Banja Luka, and ends in Sarajevo. There will be many matches, which is important for us players, as we haven't had tournaments for a long time. Everyone can't wait to get on the court."
Big tennis names are coming to Belgrade, so that tournament will be particularly interesting.
"Belgrade will be really strong - Dominic Thiem, Zverev, Dimitrov, along with players like Filip Krajinović, Dušan Lajović, and Viktor Troicki. There will also be wildcards... I hope I get one," said Džumhur.
No one knows yet what will happen with the tennis season and Grand Slam tournaments.
"We are all waiting with uncertainty to see what will happen. In a few days, we should get information from the ATP about what is happening with the season. We want to play until the end of the season, but there is a threat of a second wave of coronavirus, and travel from country to country could affect the season's continuation," concluded Džumhur.
