Džumhur after defeat to Nadal: I burned out in my desire for good play and results

Damir Džumhur was defeated in the third round of the Australian Open by the world's best player Rafael Nadal 3-0 in sets.

Our best tennis player put up a worthy resistance to the world number one, but could not do more than that.

- When the passions calmed down after the match, the first thing I want to say is that I am sorry, first of all for myself, because I did not play the tennis that I can play. I did not play as I know how, there is regret for that, but in the end I did my part of the job that I had to do. I went through two rounds despite the injury, and it was a question of whether I would even be able to appear at the Australian Open.

- I came to the match with Nadal, I definitely did not play my best tennis, but I burned out in my desire for good play and results. That was the biggest problem. I expected much more. I did not succeed. All of the above does not diminish Nadal's game and he showed why he is number one in the world.

I congratulate him on today's match. For me, it remains to see what was wrong, so that it does not repeat itself, and so that next time in more important matches I would know how to draw lessons. There were moments when I played good points, I played the important ones badly, maybe at certain moments I tried too hard, but this is not a bad start to the season, I won 90 points – said Džumhur, thanking his parents, girlfriend and team for their support.
