Džemal Hadžiabdić is a candidate for the BiH national team coach

One of the best players in BiH of all time, Džemal Hadžiabdić, is one of the candidates to succeed Mehmed Baždarević at the helm of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, writes the Patria agency.

A source close to Hadžiabdić confirmed to the Patria news agency that the legend of Mostar's Velež will run for the position of coach.

- Hadžiabdić will run for the position of coach. Our expert is aware of the current situation in the Association, finances are not his priority. Taking over the national team is a great challenge in his career, as he believes that the BiH national team has exceptionally quality players who can achieve far better results than the current ones, and he sees this as motivation for his candidacy - says our source.

Džemal Hadžiabdić was born in Mostar on July 25, 1953, and played 217 matches for Velež. From Mostar, he moved to English club Swansea City, for which he played 105 matches from 1980 to 1983. He played 20 matches for the national team of the former Yugoslavia.

Many consider him one of the best, if not the best, left-backs in the history of the former country.

He has been working as a coach in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates for 25 years. He has successfully managed numerous teams from these countries and was also the coach of Qatar.

In August 2015, he was appointed coach of Iraq, but he withdrew from the job before formally taking over the national team.

In Mostar, he is known by the nickname Čorba, while in the Arab world he is called Jamal Haji.
