At Cinema City in Sarajevo on Sunday, a day before the International Day of Happiness, a preview of the animated super-hit “Smurfs: The Lost Village” was held. Our favorite animated heroes this year joined forces with UNICEF to encourage children, young people and their families to get involved in creating a happier, more peaceful, more equal and healthier world.
The Smurfs decided to join the campaign “Small Smurfs, Big Goals” which in an original and fun way connects the Sustainable Development Goals, agreed upon as a vision of a better world by 193 UN member states, and the Smurfs, who for generations have symbolized values such as solidarity, community and respect for diversity.
“The message we want to send today is that we should celebrate the Day of Happiness with our families and friends, but also stop and think for a moment about what we can all do to make the world, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, a better place for children. It is also time to remind ourselves of the global Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, which are a global plan for all countries of the world including BiH, and which relate to how to preserve our planet, promote human rights, ensure all children go to school, are healthy and happy,” said UNICEF Representative in BiH Geeta Narayan.
Before the film screening, boys and girls had a special surprise when they received a video message from BiH national team member, AS Roma footballer and UNICEF Ambassador Edin Džeko.
“Smurfs are small, but together they can do a lot. Together we can make the world a more beautiful and better place,” Džeko said.
“You will see what the Smurfs did together for their village, you can do that together for a more beautiful and better world,” said Ognjen Džinić from the agency ‘Continental Film’.
Through the website www.smallsmurfsbiggoals.com, the Smurfs invite children and their families to learn about the “small” things that can contribute to achieving better education, health, a cleaner environment or other goals they consider important. Through a fun game, everyone can choose the goals they want to contribute to and create their own Smurf avatar which they can share with friends so they can join the initiative as well.
“The real message of this campaign is that each of us can make a change, whether we are big or small. Supporting the United Nations and continuing the long-standing cooperation with UNICEF is an honor and a privilege,” said Veronique Culliford, daughter of Smurfs creator Peyo, on the occasion of the joint campaign.
Unlike its predecessors, SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE is a fully animated film. Like all animated hits of the last decade, we will be able to watch it in local cinemas in a synchronized version, with voices for the main characters provided by some of the region's greatest actors: Mila Elegović, Alma Prica, Tamara Aleksić, Ljubomir Kerekeš, Dragan Vujić, Srđan Timarov, Ana Begić Tahiri, Hana Hegedušić, Bojan Perić, Mladen Vasary, Ivan Đuričić and many others.
