Our Edin Džeko's club, Manchester City, was surprisingly defeated today at home by Wigan in an English FA Cup match with a score of 1:2. Manuel Pellegrini's team played terribly in the first half, already trailing 0:1 to a solid Wigan team. The attack, featuring the convalescent Agüero and Spanish striker Negredo, lacked ideas on how to break through the defense.
Only after Džeko's entry in the second half did City gain attacking sharpness, but it wasn't enough for a comeback. The only goal for City was scored by Samir Nasri, in an action where our striker, despite a minor injury, jumped brilliantly and passed the ball to Richards, who then passed it to Nasri, who hit the bottom left corner of the visitors' goal with a volley.
In the last twenty minutes, Džeko had several good plays but lacked luck. Two shots, one with his head, and another after a good play, ended just above the crossbar due to interventions from defenders. The battle he fought with Wigan's defense is best illustrated by the fact that he finished the match with a bandage on his head, after being hit in the temple with an elbow. City is clearly in a crisis, and frequent team changes and the absence of Fernandinho are affecting the results. In today's match, the team from Manchester was most costly due to inexplicable defensive errors.
