Džeko: Every award, especially one from my homeland, is particularly valuable to me

I was pleasantly surprised by the information that the Council of Ministers of BiH awarded me the State Award for Sport, for promoting BiH in the world, said Edin Džeko in his first reaction to the news that he is the recipient of this prestigious recognition.

- I want to take this opportunity to thank you for that, because from the first day of my career, my goal was to promote the country through my games and behavior, because I am proud to have been born in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am proud that my name, wherever I go and wherever I come, is accompanied by the flag of our country, and it has always been and always will be. Every award, especially one that comes from my homeland, is particularly valuable and important to me.

Yes, athletes are the best ambassadors of BiH in the world, and that is why they need the support of the state, authorities, and fans, because we all proudly wear the crest on our hearts. There have been ups and downs, and there will be more, but the most important thing is that we know where we come from and that we carry goodness, humility, and faith in what we do, and people will recognize the sincerity in that sooner or later!

- Thank you once again, and I wish everyone much happiness, love, laughter, fewer problems, more victories, and good health in 2017. We all deserve it together – said Džeko.

Džeko will donate the money allocated for the state award for sport to charity, and he was nominated for this state award for sport by the Association of Sports Journalists.
