Džeko speaks out after qualifiers concluded

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - BiH finished the qualifiers in fourth position, and we have the Nations League play-off remaining to secure a spot in EURO 2020.

After the qualifiers, our captain Edin Džeko spoke out.

“Another qualifying campaign is behind us, one in which we could have and should have done much better. I know everyone is disappointed, because I am also disappointed as a fan, a player, and a captain. I am 33 years old, and the only unfulfilled wish, the only unfulfilled dream is to play in the European Championship with my national team.

We did not succeed in the qualifiers, and let's not lie – we were bad. We failed, and we are not happy about it. We were not at our level, none of us, and we did not deserve to qualify for the European Championship. We can talk for days about why it was like that, but the fact is that we failed, but we have another chance.

Let's forget about everything that happened and, in a few months, when the play-off match awaits us, let's all try together to qualify for the Euro.

When I say all together, I really mean everyone, starting with the players, fans, media, the association, the professional staff, all of us together, because only as a team, which includes all of the above, can we do it. We need to create positive energy, because we all have a common goal and we all love BiH.

The dream of us players is to play in major competitions, and for many of us, the end of our careers is approaching, and I don't want to look in the mirror tomorrow and realize that we missed fulfilling our dreams.

As captain, as a player, as a fan of our one and only homeland, I promise that I, along with my teammates, will give our all on the field to achieve qualification, but we need your help.

So many times you have cheered us on, so many times you have been our wind at our backs, but we have often let you down, as well as ourselves. We all need to believe that success is possible, and we all need to move towards the same goal – qualification for the Euro, because we can do it, because we will try to earn it on the field, leaving our hearts for BiH,” Džeko wrote.
