Džeko on the World Cup: We are not going there for vacation or fun, we want to achieve something

(Patria) - Among the many personnel question marks surrounding Schalke, which is concluding a successful season and celebrating promotion to the Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon, is Edin Džeko.

It remains unclear whether the 40-year-old Bosnian striker will want to continue his career after the World Cup, which begins on June 11 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, and if he continues, for which club he will play.

If Schalke had its way, the Diamond would stay with the team in the Bundesliga for at least the first season and, with his undeniable quality, would score several goals that would help the club avoid relegation, they think in Gelsenkirchen.

However, the decision ultimately rests with him, reports German 90min.

- These four months have been extraordinary for me. I came here to help Schalke get into the Bundesliga, and it worked.

I did everything right, and of course, then you have a lot to think about the future, should I quit when it's so great - Džeko told Sky.

He points out that he still feels good on the field, although he admitted that he is not "the same player as ten years ago", but he "stays in shape and is ready to play".

However, his decision is not expected anytime soon, as he has already hinted:

"I have to spend a few days with my family to think about what is best. But of course, it also depends on Schalke and what they want."

However, one important sentence at the end gives Schalke fans hope that the veteran will stay longer: "I feel ready for the Bundesliga."

One thing seems clear - if Džeko really plays another season and decides on the Bundesliga, he will likely stay at Schalke. It would be very surprising if he played for another club in the Bundesliga.

When making his decision, he will carefully consider what the German club expects of him. However, the focus is clearly on the World Cup with the Dragons.

- We are not going there for vacation or fun - we want to achieve something. This tournament means a lot to me - Džeko said.

Since arriving at Schalke in January from Italian club Fiorentina, the Diamond has scored six goals and provided three assists in ten appearances.
