Twenty years since the historic match: Željo fans celebrate Zubandan

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - On this day 20 years ago, the BiH championship play-off final was played between Željezničar and Sarajevo, with the Blues celebrating a goal by Hadis Zubanović in the 90th minute of the match.

The match was played on 5 June 1998 at Koševo in front of 40,000 spectators.

In an excellent atmosphere, the footballers of both teams put on a very good performance, and Hadis Zubanović ensured a great celebration for Željo's fans.

In the 90th minute of the match, Željezničar launched a counterattack through Pehlivanović and Šopović, and Hadis Zubanović, the favourite of all Željezničar fans, took care of the finish.

With that goal, the Blues won the first post-war title under UEFA supervision, and Željezničar fans celebrate every 5 June as “Zubandan”.

It was the first post-war championship in which a play-off was played between clubs from the BiH league and the then league of the so-called Herceg-Bosna. The matches were played in Mostar and Sarajevo, and in addition to Željezničar and Sarajevo, Čelik, Bosna Visoko, Široki Brijeg and Zrinjski also participated.
