Đukanović: When you serve the interests of a 'motherland', not the country you were born in, you are a traitor

PODGORICA, (Patria) - By adopting the law on freedom of religion, the conditions are being created to more seriously address the church issue, said the President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović.

In an interview with Dnevne novine, Đukanović reminded that the Government determined the Bill on Freedom of Religion at its last session and sent it for further procedure.

“I believe that this can significantly contribute to regulating numerous issues in this sensitive sphere. Unfortunately, there are no ready-made models for this. Our political starting point is that every new solution must follow the basic goal: overcoming the inherited deep divisions in Montenegrin society,” stated Đukanović.

He counts on the commitment of all political and church entities to reach a sustainable solution in good faith and intention, in the best interest of all our citizens, both the state and the church.

“Of course, we will not allow anyone to be arrogant in Montenegro, and to undermine our state, hiding behind a cassock and a cross,” the president concluded.

Đukanović said that due to evident political impotence, and also, as he said, amateurism, the opposition in Montenegro has come to believe that they will achieve their goals by serving foreign interests, which the President of Montenegro believes ultimately ends in betrayal.

“Let’s not beat around the bush, that’s what it’s called everywhere in the world. When your 'motherland' is foreign, not your own country. And when you start serving the interests of the 'motherland', even though they are against the interests of the country you were born in, you and all your ancestors. Expecting the 'motherland' to help you with cash, or by paying various Šavives and Asades millions of euros,” stated Đukanović.
